Kohima- A heaven on the Earth


Acres of croplands, towering hillocks, bamboo huts and folk in traditional meghala- don't they talk about North-East India? The part of the country is dotted with attractions that are yet left to be explored. One must-visit place is Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. It is perched at an altitude of 1500 meters above the sea-level and is located in the southwest part of the state.

Countless tribal villages dot the picturesque town and among the many tribal groups, Naga communities dominate the region. The small town experience favorable weather round the year. Summers are tropical, while winters are dry, meant to chill out under the star-kissed sky.

Tourist Delight in Kohima

Kohima unfurls the magic of Mother Nature. With traveling across the zig-zag ways, visitors can explore the unspoilt beauty of the place. Lets take a quick look of what it has in store for us.

Zoological Park

The hilly place is blessed with immense variety of flora and fauna. The small zoological park is home to some endangered species. Rare species of orchids, Tragopan birds, Mithun, Golden Langurs and Blythe's Tragopan are worth-watching.


Museum

The museum in Kohima exhibits archaic arts and crafts, that talks a lot about the inherent creativity of tribal. Traditional garments, paintings, weapons made of iron and wood, ethnic jewelery are displayed in a wide range.

War Cemetery

It is one of the must-visit tourist attractions in Kohima. Its every nook and corner depicts the mournful saga of soldiers, who laid down their lives during World War-II. The cemetery has been decorated with lush fields and stone slabs, carved out with inspirational words. Till today, foreigners visit the place and pay homage before the immortal soul of patriot soldiers.

The Catholic Cathedral

Situated at Aradurah Hill, the Catholic Cathedral is one of the religious site at Kohima. This largest cathedrals in the North-East India is a prime center for meditation and prayer. The building beholds the biggest cross in India, made of wood. Its indigenous architectural design demands closest glimpse of its spectators.

Kohima is the capital of Nagaland. This is one of hilly destination in India situated near bagha state of Nagaland which shares its border with Burma. Beside history of Kohima there are various tourist destinations.

Explore Kohima tourism with cheap flights to India; Kohima tourist attractions are - World War II Cemetry, Nagaland State Museum, Zoological Park and Bara Basti.
